How to Install Mods on a Soulmask Server
This guide explains how to install and enable Steam Workshop mods on a Soulmask dedicated server.
Adding Mods to the Server Startup
Soulmask mods can be enabled by adding their Steam Workshop IDs to the server startup command using the -mod= parameter.
For example:
-mod=3332634339,3330908154
When adding multiple mods, separate each Workshop ID with a comma.
Do not add quotation marks around the mod IDs.
Example
A startup command may contain:
... -pvp -mod=3332634339,3330908154 -online=Steam ...
After adding or changing the mod list, fully stop the server and then start it again.
Extra Arguments Character Limit
Some server control panels provide an Extra Arguments field for custom startup parameters.
If this field has a character limit and your mod list is too long, the mods should instead be added directly to the server's startup template or startup command.
For example:
-mod=3332634339,3330908154
If you do not have permission to edit the full startup command, contact your hosting provider and ask them to either:
-
Increase the character limit of the Extra Arguments field, or
-
Add the
-mod=parameter directly to your server's startup configuration.
Manually Uploading Mods
Uploading Steam Workshop mod files manually to:
/home/container/WS/Mods
may not work unless the uploaded files preserve the exact folder structure expected by the game and have the correct file permissions.
For this reason, using the server's supported startup mod parameter is generally preferable to manually uploading Workshop files.
Using Engine.ini
You may find guides recommending entries similar to the following inside:
/home/container/WS/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.ini
For example:
[OnlineSubsystemSteam.Workshop]
ModIds=3330908154
ModIds=3332634339
These entries alone may not reliably cause Soulmask to load the mods.
The recommended approach is to include the Workshop IDs in the startup command:
-mod=3330908154,3332634339
Restarting the Server
After changing the mod configuration:
-
Fully stop the Soulmask server.
-
Wait until the server process has completely stopped.
-
Start the server again.
-
Check the startup console or server logs to confirm that the mods are being loaded.
A normal restart may not always be sufficient after changing startup parameters, so a full stop and start is recommended.
Troubleshooting
If the mods still do not load, check the following:
-
Confirm that each Steam Workshop ID is correct.
-
Make sure multiple IDs are separated by commas.
-
Do not place quotes around the mod IDs.
-
Confirm that
-mod=appears in the actual startup command. -
Fully stop and start the server after making changes.
-
Review the startup log for mod or Steam Workshop errors.
-
If mods were uploaded manually, verify the folder structure and file permissions inside:
/home/container/WS/Mods
If you are contacting support, provide:
-
A copy of the server startup log.
-
A screenshot of the
/home/container/WS/Modsdirectory structure. -
The Steam Workshop IDs you are trying to use.
Example Configuration
For two Workshop mods with the IDs:
3332634339
3330908154
use:
-mod=3332634339,3330908154
Then fully stop and start the server.
This configuration has been confirmed to successfully load Soulmask mods when added to the server startup command.
