How to Install a Minecraft Modpack – Beginner’s Guide Print

  • 0

Installing Minecraft modpacks is a fantastic way to expand your gameplay, with hundreds of pre-built combinations of mods tailored to different themes, styles, and objectives. Rather than configuring mods individually, modpacks handle all the hard work for you.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to install a Minecraft modpack using several popular launchers, including CurseForge, FTB, MultiMC, Technic, and Voidswrath.

What is a Modpack?

A modpack bundles together multiple Minecraft mods that have been tested to work together. They often feature:

  • Unique gameplay mechanics
  • Themed content (e.g., tech, magic, survival)
  • Performance optimisations
  • Pre-configured world generation and recipes

Modpacks are usually built for specific versions of Minecraft (e.g., 1.18.2 or 1.20.1) and may require matching Forge or Fabric modloaders.

Recommended for Beginners: CurseForge Launcher

The CurseForge Launcher is one of the easiest and most stable ways to install modpacks.

  1. Download the CurseForge Launcher
  2. Open the launcher, click Mods → Minecraft
  3. Click Browse Modpacks
  4. Find your preferred modpack and click Install
  5. Wait for it to finish, then click Play
???? Tip: Make sure your system has the latest version of Java. If the modpack won’t start, it’s often due to Java not being installed or outdated.

Installing with Feed The Beast (FTB) Launcher

  1. Download from feed-the-beast.com
  2. Choose your modpack and click Install
  3. The Minecraft launcher will open – log in and click Play

Installing with MultiMC

MultiMC is a powerful and lightweight modpack launcher. While less beginner-friendly, it gives you excellent control over instances and memory.

  1. Download MultiMC
  2. Extract the ZIP and run MultiMC.exe
  3. Create a shortcut for easy access
  4. Open MultiMC and go to Profiles → Manage Accounts
  5. Add your Mojang or Microsoft login details
  6. Click Add Instance in the top-left
  7. Choose to install:

Technic Launcher

  1. Download the Technic Launcher
  2. Log in with your Minecraft account
  3. Click the Modpacks tab
  4. Search for your chosen pack
  5. Click Install, then Play

Voidswrath Launcher

  1. Download from voidswrath.com
  2. Log in at the bottom of the launcher
  3. Go to the Modpacks tab, find your pack, and click Play

Final Notes

  • Always match your client modpack to the one installed on the server.
  • Most modpacks will auto-install Forge, but some launchers require manual setup.
  • If you're experiencing errors, make sure your Java version and RAM allocation are sufficient.
  • Issues with the modpack itself should be reported to the modpack author.
  • Server-side problems? Open a ticket via your hosting provider's panel or support channels.

You’ve now successfully installed a Minecraft modpack using your preferred launcher. Happy crafting!
